You eat your largest meal of the day (like a king) for breakfast. Your body has gone approx. 8-12 hours without food by now (if you stop eating after dinner) and your blood sugar is at it's lowest. You're re-fueling for the day and getting your metabolism going.
Eat a satisfying lunch (like a prince). Just enough to feel satisfied but not full.
Your smallest meal of the day should be at dinner (like a pauper). You will most likely be winding down for the day and soon going to sleep and you don't want that meal sitting in your stomach while you're not active. You want to wake up hungry ready for a big breakfast.
I would hardly ever eat breakfast before and if I did it would be something small and unhealthy like a donut. That's becasue I would eat a big dinner and then snack all night so when I woke up I'd still be full and that's why I would never eat breakfast. Meanwhile, I was feeling tired and sluggish all day long. Now I get excited when I get that hungry feeling in the evening becasue I know that I'm on track and that I'll wake up hungry for a big breakfast.
I watched The Biggest Loser last evening and Jillian was on my last nerve treating her team like shit - and especially humiliating that one girl (Danni?) by pouring that water over her head. OMG! I know that this is her "thing" but did you notice how her team just shut down from being treated like that? Also, she is down to 2 people on her team - that's saying something, too. Bob and Dolvett are tough but nice, still treating their team with respect, and they get great results without humiliating anyone.
If you were on the Biggest Loser who would you want to train you? Here is my pick in order: Bob, Dolvett, Jillian.
Let's have another on-track day.
WTH? I just had a huge post here, I go for a sip of coffee, and look back at my screen and it's GONE. :(
ReplyDeleteI think, actually, it was a come-to-Jesus break-through moment/episode for Jillian. With a shorter season and smaller team sizes, her normal bullying simply won't work in the very beginning. Her team DID shut down. And guess what? She changed. At least a bit. Which was good.
Hands down I'd pit Dolvett. (who amazingly, looked much less arm puffy this episode. go figure. LOL) He's the perfect blend. I find Bob a little too emo for my tastes. And I don't have enough inner-athlete in me to please Jillian. LOL
I definitely lean more towards your King, Prince, Pauper methodology...but I still keep my breakfasts at about 300-350 calories. Just smart calories; salt-free natural almonds, reduced fat Wheat Thins, and lite Laughing Cow. (M-Sat. Sun. is a more traditional eggs breakfast.) But dinner, when I'm dieting, is always my smallest meal of the day. ;)
I'd pick Dolvett. Not pit. LOL :D
ReplyDeleteSunny - LOL re. Dolvett's arms. He is perfect to me, minus the tats. You're right about Bob being emo. ;) Did you notice how slicked up Jillian has been at the last two weight-ins or is it my imagination?
ReplyDeleteI'd pick Jillian, just because I totally respond to getting my ass kicked. When I used to work with trainer back in my triathlon days, I had this guy who was a total d*ck, but since I have a crazy sense of humor, I'd always try to get him to laugh a little. Of course, he never even cracked a smile. The best, though, was when I figured out how to get under his skin and the harder he worked me, the ruder he was, the more I poked. Probably the most worth my money training ever and I did get fiercely strong.
ReplyDeleteI love breakfast and lunch, but I could easily go without a major dinner. Hubby, not so much, so I always eat too much in the evening and sometimes drink wine, too.
Three of my favorite breakfasts:
1. Oatmeal with a big spoon of natural, chunky peanut butter stirred in and a juicy, ice cold Comice pear on the side.
2. A bowl of Chobani pineapple yogurt topped with a drizzle of honey, chopped pistachios and sliced banana and a sprinkling of good, homemade granola.
My favorite of the moment:
3. A handful of chopped onion and cilantro tossed into a non-stick skillet and cooked until the onion is soft and fragrant. Toss in one torn corn tortilla and cook for a minute. Mix two jumbo eggs with a splash of milk and dump into skillet. Cook omelette style until egg is cooked, then add a sprinkling of extra sharp cheddar; fold and chop in the pan giving it a bit of a semi-scramble. Cook until cheese is melty then transfer to a bowl and add a dollop of hot sauce. Just under 300 calories and super filling and very satisfying. When I eat this, I usually don't even think about lunch until around 2.
Mel - Sounds like you were/are a beast with all that strength! Good for you!
ReplyDeleteThose breakfasts all sound delicious - esp. the last one. Thanks for the ideas - I would have never thought to throw corn tortillas into my eggs. I love hotsauce on eggs. I may give this one a try adding a little chopped tomato. ::drools::
Jillian really kicked her team into the dirt this year, I suspect she is taking out all that new mother/toddler frustration on her team, lol. I would personally pick her to be my trainer because she would piss me off and get me motivated. I love showing people up! I think Bob would be my next choice just because he's been doing this longer than Dolvett and has a lot more proven resutls. But damn, oh dayum I'd miss being able to look at Dolvett's sweet bod!
